Health and Exercise Science, Bachelor of Science - Coaching Athletics and Physical Activity Option

The Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science's Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise Science Coaching Athletics and Physical Activity (HECA) track is designed for students seeking careers in K-12 teaching and coaching or gym/health center management or recreation supervision. The track includes two options:
- Students desiring to teach and coach in public school systems complete the Advanced Certificate in Secondary Education (ACSE) to obtain an Arkansas teaching license in K-12 Health and Physical Education with a coaching endorsement. A second content area for teaching certification is recommended for this option.
- Students seeking careers in gym/health center management or recreation supervision choose a minor in a related area. Suggested minors include Business and Marketing.
Health and Exercise Science Coaching Athletics and Physical Activity graduates acquire the knowledge and skills to:
- Test and assess the athletic populations in various age groups.
- Develop safe and effective strength & conditioning plans and programs.
- Evaluate sports performance data.
- Provide safe, effective and concise communication of exercise instruction.
- Implement best practices in teaching and learning.
- Organize and manage programs and facilities in health, athletics, and physical activity.
