The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a Software Development focus provides students with a strong foundation in computing principles, mathematical reasoning, and software design. The program emphasizes problem solving, algorithmic thinking, and the development of reliable and efficient software systems.

The curriculum integrates theory and practice through a combination of programming-intensive coursework, supporting mathematics, and applied project work. Students gain experience designing, implementing, and evaluating software solutions while developing an understanding of professional practice. A two-semester capstone experience allows students to apply their knowledge to the development of a substantial software system.

Graduates are prepared for careers in software development, systems analysis, and related technical fields, as well as for graduate study in computer science or closely related disciplines.

Graduates of all programs within Computing Sciences will be expected to meet the outcomes outlined by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET:

1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
6. Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.
