Applied music students may be assigned participation in designated ensembles in addition to required ensembles. Ensembles are given in the curricula in Music and Music Education. To qualify for three hours per semester, a student must have a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA in applied music, a 3.00 cumulative GPA in total hours, junior standing and recommendation of the instructor.

Laboratory experience in conducting and performance of materials appropriate to teaching band in the public school.

The course of study will involve selected scenes from standard opera literature prepared for dramatic presentation. Research will be required pertaining to the historical setting, appropriate costumes, and mannerisms of the period being studied. Staging techniques and set building will be included as deemed necessary to each presentation.

This course provides the opportunity to investigate current issues influencing music education in the public schools. Course topics will change each semester and may include subjects such as the use of new technologies, political issues related to education, and students with special needs to name a few.

The course material will include historical treatises, method books, scales and technical studies, etudes, and grades repertoire.
