This program includes advising coursework in Higher Education & Student Affairs (HESA) to prepare individuals entering the field of collegiate advising. The program also provides a benefit to experienced advisors who wish to enhance their knowledge or will give those with an interest in serving in an advising role the skills and competencies they need to be effective. Students are introduced to advising in broad terms and exposed to the main types of advising common in higher education institutions.
Students not currently in the Higher Education & Student Affairs program will need to submit:
1. An application to the Graduate College;
2. Pay the application fee;
3. Submit a current resume/vitae highlighting any co-curricular experiences and/or student affairs experience; and
4. Give a short statement about why they want to pursue the graduate certificate and how they plan to use it to meet their personal or professional goals.
Students who complete the certificate will:
- Apply appropriate advising techniques in interactions with students
- Demonstrate satisfaction with the Higher Education and Student Affairs program.
- Demonstrate mastery and application of foundational and professional studies.
