The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in School Counseling and Leadership is designed to prepare candidates for licensure as school counselors. The program consists of 17 hours of leadership core courses and 28 hours of school counseling specialty courses. Practical activities representative of situations school personnel face on a daily basis have been integrated into the coursework. The program will provide opportunities for outstanding individuals to earn Arkansas school counselor licensure. Students will enter into the program as cohorts.
Unconditional Admission
Students are eligible to apply for unconditional admission to the Master of Education degree program in School Counseling and Leadership if they meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must hold a standard teaching license or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in psychology, rehabilitation science, or sociology. Related fields will be examined on an individual basis.
- Applicants must meet the admission requirements for Graduate College.
- Approval from the Program Director.
Students who complete the program will exhibit the following:
- The professional school counselor understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline, and can create experiences that support the learning process for students.
- The professional school counselor plans a school counseling program that is comprehensive in scope, developmental in nature, and is aligned to the American School Counseling Association’s National Model. The professional school counselor plans counseling services that facilitate student development in academic, career, and social/emotional domains.
- The professional school counselor exhibits human relations skills which support the development of human potential.
- The professional school counselor works collaboratively with school colleagues, parents/guardians, and the community to support students' learning and well-being.
