ENGL 0303 Composition Workshop
A composition workshop that complements and supports instruction in ENGL 1013 Composition I.
May be repeated for credit. The hours earned in ENGL 0303 may not be used to satisfy general education requirements nor provide credit toward any degree. A student who is placed in ENGL 0303 must register concurrently in an assigned section of ENGL 1013.
Note: The grade in ENGL 0303 will be recorded as pass or fail.
ENGL 1013 Composition I
ACTS Common Course - ENGL 1013 Prerequisite: Score of 19 or above on English section of the ACTE; 500 or above on the evaluation based read/writing section of the RSAT; 251 or above on the writing section of ACCUPLACER; or a grade of C or better in ENGL 0303 or BST 1003.
A review of grammar, introduction to research methods, and practice in writing exposition using reading to provide ideas and patterns.
Note: May not be taken for credit after successful completion of ENGL 1043.

ENGL 2193 Introduction to Creative Nonfiction
Prerequisite: ENGL 1013.
This course engages in literary study of the nonfiction genre. In particular, it seeks to answer the question: what is creative nonfiction as we understand it in the literary canon? Through a survey of key works across history, voices, styles, and forms the course will explore this genre's defining characteristics, analyze its contributions in craft, popular publishing, and scholarship. It will investigate the ways truth can be transformed by the tools of craft to connect the personal experience to the global, thus examining what, why, and how agentive authorship is contextualized amid the influences and realities of the world at large.
